Government & Royalty ( reality check )

For That Misery Of The Spirit
That Is Betrayed In The Set Of A Face
There Can Be No Statistics

There is no cosmetic for our frustrations
If upon my tears you build the utopia of which you dream
Beware !

They lie
We die

What right is it that others lives
Are yours to have and hold and bind ?
It's your definitions that they die for
Your security that they bleed for

They take away our freedom
In the name of liberty

No One On Earth Has Blood That's Blue

ROYALTY. How can these people be elevated and held in respect as examples of decency ?. Without meaning to sound as if i'm Jesus Christ 'the second'. If i had a fraction of their wealth i would be building and funding Hospitals, Health Care and Education. That is the measure of decency and good. Instead they pass down amongst a small family circle from generation to generation money and riches they could never hope to spend.

Let's not forget either, that they are merely the inheritors of their ancestors greed, theft and murder. They are true obscenity.

Those who cheer the loudest
Are the most oppressed

Same old stuff, you've heard it all before
Is it about the system or is it war ?
Well if you don't like it, tough
'Cos i'm the same old monkey in the same old zoo
With the same old message trying to get through
If what i've got to say is always much the same
It's because the game the system plays is still the same

Senile idiots in their seats of power
Ancient rotting corpses breathing horror by the hour
They're lovers of death those creeps
Screwing our earth as our earth weeps

Iron ladies, steel men
Waiting for the war to start again
Blood lusting nutters plan death for us all
They'll be hiding in their bunkers as we watch the missiles fall

Damn the politically minded, here's something i want to say
About the state of the nation and the way it treats us today
Don't take any notice of what the public think
They're so hyped up with t.v. they just don't want to think
They used to call me sweet thing, but i'm nobody's plaything
Now they don't want me anymore, because i threw it on the floor

Now that i'm different, they'd love to bust my head
They'd love to see me cop out, love to see me dead

When one voice rules the nation just because they're top of the pile
Doesn't mean their vision is the clearest
The voices of the people are falling on deaf ears
Our politicians all become careerists

They must declare their interests, but not their company cars
Is there more to a seat in parliament than sitting there for years ?
And the best of all this bad bunch are shouting to be heard
Above the sound of ideologies clashing

Outside the patient millions who put them into power
Expect a little more back for their taxes
Like school books, beds in hospitals
And peace in our bloody time
All they get is old men grinding axes

Who've built their private fortune on the things they can rely
The courts, the secret handshake
The stock exchange and the old school tie
For god and queen and country, all things they justify
God bless the civil service the nation's saving grace
While we expect democracy, they're laughing in our face
And although our cries get louder, their laughter gets louder still

The party that became so powerful by sinking foreign boats
Is dreaming up new promises, because promises win votes
Being resolute in conference, the ad-man's expertise
The majority by their silence shall pay for days like these

The right to build communities is back behind closed doors
Between government and people stands the right arm of the law
And shame upon the patriot, the mark of the bulldog breed
Is a family without a home, is a pensioner in need

I shout in the street and you take my voice
This sham of democracy leaves no choice

You choose your leaders and place your trust
Their lies weigh you down as their promises rust
You'll see kidney machines replaced by rockets and guns
Nuclear text books for atomic crimes, our earth in ruins

The public gets what the public wants
Well, i want nothing that society's got
I don't care what this society wants
I'm going underground

What will you do when the gas taps turn ?
Where will you be when the bodies burn ?
Will you just watch as the cattle trucks roll by ?
Pretend it isn't happening, turn a blind eye
Have you seen the army convoys quitely passing by ?
Heard the helicopters in your little bit of sky ?
Have you seen the squad cars packed with boys in blue ?
Have you ever wondered what they're there to do ?

Pictures in the papers of soldiers in the street
Pictures in the history books of rotting human meat
Auschwitz's now a tourist spot for the goggle-eyed to pry
Still in working order for you and i
Photo's of the victim's of gas, of gun, of bomb
Inheritance of violence in the bookshelves of your home
Don't wait for it to come to you, 'cos come it surely will
The guardians of the state are trained to search, destroy and kill

There's people at this moment sitting with fingers on the trigger
There's loyalty and royalty to make their violence figure
Allegiance to the flag they say as they lock the prison door
Allegiance to normality, that's what lobotomies are for
Propaganda on the airwaves, the way to live
It's not for you or me, the alternative

They look for peace with a thousand squaddie boys
Torture in their mental home, is another of their ploys
They'll keep us all in line, by christ, they'll keep us on our toes
But if we stand against their power, we'll see how violence grows
Read it in the paper about rebellious youth
But it's them that are so violent, it's them that hide the truth
Stay in line or pay the cost, do you think they care when another life is lost ?
From coshes at Southall it's just a small leap
To ashes at Auschwitz, life is cheap

Don't think they won't do it, 'cos they already do
But this time round the pawns are me and you

Those of us who stand against the status quo
Do so against all odds
We cling so closely together
Because we have little other than ourselves

Two little children rise at dawn
Bubbling with life after one little yawn

Weapon makers soaring shares
As a playing child is caught unawares
No sane mind could ever make sense
Of the slaughter of the innocents

One little babes sparkling eyes
One little babe bleeding lies
One little babes happy heart
One little babe torn apart
One in the west has the best
One in Palestine, minimal lifeline

To the benefit of nations pacts
Comes about these evil acts
Devils all, how dare you show your face
Obscenities committed for which even hell feels disgrace

I could be a soldier
Go out there and fight to save this land
Be a people's soldier, paramilitary gun in hand
I won't be a soldier
I won't take orders from no one
They can keep their armies, killing isn't my idea of fun

I could be a hero
Live and die for their important cause
A united nation or an independent state with laws
And rules and regulations that merely cause
Disturbances and wars

Still they come up to me
With a different name and same old face
I can see the connection
With another time and another place

They want to waste my life
I'm not gonna be taken in
I've heard their story many times before
And every time i've thrown it out the door

Neat little labels to keep us all apart
Keep us all divided, for when the troubles start

Boring old politics that will get us all shot
Left wing, right wing, you can keep the lot
Keep your petty prejudices, i don't see the point
Anarchy and freedom is what i want

External control are you going to let them get you ?
Do you want to be a prisoner in the boundaries that they set you ?
You say you want to be yourself, by christ do you think they'll let you ?

Hello, hello, hello, this is the lord god can you hear ?
Hellfire and damnation's what i've got for you down there
On earth i have ambassadors, archbishops, vicar, pope
We'll blind you with morality, you'd best abandon any hope
We're telling you you'd better pray, because you were born in sin
Right from the start we'll build a cell, and then we'll lock you in
We sit in holy judgement condemning those that stray
We offer our forgiveness, but first we'll make you pay

Hello, hello, hello, now here's a message from your queen
As figurehead of the status quo, i set the social scene
I'm most concerned about my people, i want to give them peace
So i'm making sure they stay in line with my army and police
My prisons and my mental homes have ever open doors
For those amongst my subject who dare to ask for more
Unrulyness and disrespect are things i can't allow
So i'll see the peasants grovel if they refuse to bow

Then there's the prime sinister's, presidents, armies and police
Who at times of threatened crisis are certain to be there
Guarding national heritage, no matter what or where
Palaces for kings and queens, mansions for the rich
Protection for the wealthy, defence of privilege
Fighting for the ruling classes in their battle against the poor

Round every other corner stands p.c. 1984
Guardian of the future, he'll implement the law
He's there as a grim reminder that no matter what you do
Big brother's system's always there with his beady eye on you
From god to local bobby, in home and street and school
They've got your name and number while you've just got their rule
We've got to look for methods to undermine those powers
It's time to change the tables, the future must be ours

But no one ever changed the church by pulling down a steeple
And you'll never change the system by bombing number ten
Systems just aren't made of bricks they're mostly made of people
You may send them into hiding, but they'll be back again
If you don't like the rules they make, refuse to play their game
If you don't want to be a number, don't give them your name
If you don't want to be caught out, refuse to hear their question
Silence is a virtue use it for your own protection
They'll try to make you play their game, refuse to show your face
If you don't want to be beaten down, refuse to join their race

Be exactly who you want to be, do what you want to do
I am he and she is she but you're the only you
No one else has got your eyes, can see the things you see
It's up to you to change your life, my life's up to me
If you don't like the life you live, change it now, it's yours
Nothing has effect, if you don't recognize the cause
If the programme's not the one you want, get up, turn off the set
It's only you that can decide, what life you're going to get

The system might have got you, but it won't get me

Democracy's a con job, they've got you fooled
If you step out of line they'll have you pulled
You can't go against them, it ain't allowed
So watch your step, hide in the crowd

The system is there, the system will stay
The system will rule, o.k.
Birth control, life control, death control
Education of their wrong and right
Of their order and of their law
Don't take it, it's just a con
Don't take it, you know it's wrong

OBJECT, REFUSE, REJECT, ABUSE.

There's lots of worthwhile jobs for the lad who wants to know
The police force offers chances for a bright intelligent lad
To interfere with anyone, 'cos they're there, just to be had
It offers quite a range for aggression and for spite
Take all you're frustrations out in a justifiable light
It's a man's life in the army, good pay and lots of fun
Stab them with your bayonet, shoot them with your gun
There's lots of chances in this land of hope and glory
Try and make your own rules, that's a different story

The police smash, the police break
The police have made a big mistake

Guilty copper on the t.v. screen
So obscene

I cannot find the words to describe my utter contempt
At the cancer inflicted by a policeman's lies

No peace as my rage burns
No sleep as i restlessly turn
My mind afire, a seething cauldron of despair
Shackled for now, simmering, festering, bubbling
Boiling, one day it will explode, then they begin their suffering

You wicked people stabbing hard, grabbing while the going's good
Administrator's vicious smile, dancing on the body pile
Slipping your sly fingernails into impaled flesh on the battlefields
The decaying corpses help you up to your position at the top

You stack your dead heroes
With no more thought than some accountant at their work
It's your heartless failures they protect
While you deny the shame of your neglect
All you can see is your brutal success, damn the dead and fear the mess

You cheat and lie and jargonize, that your success is also ours
While your ambition scrapes the living dry
Your solutions are archaic battlecries

Progress through self-sacrifice, feed it up with national pride
You betray the dead as you curse life
Death pusher, you raid the bodies of the dead
Don't talk of justice or respect you filth soaked armchair moralist
You bind the baby as it crawls
Crush it's head, the soft new skull
Burst it's brain, keep it dull
You own it's mind you murderous thief
And grind it down with bloodied teeth

The face that stares back from the mirror
Reflects the reality of your horror
So don't tell me you care, go away to your fortress
Leave us out of your madness
This is our world

This country tells us that we're down and out
Got to suffer to get things moving
Say it's up to me and you

Well look around, see who's got the goods
Not you and me
They aren't suffering, no, not for us
They're masquerading like deceivers must

How is it that the small and mealy-minded have gained so much power ?
What perversion has taken place that we are governed by fools ?

They keep their power, because their fingers on the button
They've got control, won't let it be forgotten
The truth of their reality is at the wrong end of a gun
The proof of that is widespread and that's no fun
Seeing the squaddy lying in the front yard
Seeing the machine gun resting on the fence
Finding the entrance to your own front door is barred
They've got the nerve to call it defence
Seems their defence is just a threat of strength

Protection for the privileged at any length
The government protecting their profit from the poor
The rich and the fortunate chaining up the door
Afraid that the people might ask for a little more

Defence, it's nothing less than war
And no one but the government knows what the hell it's for
Oh yes, they say it's defence, they say it's decency
Mai Lai, Hiroshima, know what i mean ?

And their systems, they're everywhere
School, army, church, the corporation deal
A messed up reality, based on fear
A conspiracy to stop you feeling real

Why should freedom be at best a dream ?
At worst, an insulting privilege ?

The boundaries are becoming narrower as the state becomes more paranoid
Under authoritarian rule conformity becomes the only security
Fear is a powerful weapon against human development
Cowering in our temples of self there's little chance of change

The state is aware of that, the bomb serves many functions
If fear of the omnipotent god is no more
The nuclear father will govern with his shepherds crook
Drawing his flock closer to the valley of the shadow of death

System, system, we're not your pretty girls
System, system, we're not your little girls
System, system, we're not frightened by your lies
System, bloody system, we ain't got no dream to die

System, system, we're not your pretty boys
System, system, we're not your little toys
System, system, we've seen through your fear
System, bloody system, we don't want your terror here

You talk about revolution, well, that's fine
But what are you going to be doing come the time ?
Are you going to be the big man with the tommy-gun ?
Will you talk about freedom when the blood begins to run ?
Well, freedom has no value if violence is the price
Don't want your revolution, i want anarchy and peace
You talk of overthrowing power with violence as your tool
You speak of liberation and when the people rule
Well, ain't it people rule right now, what difference would there be ?
Just another set of bigots with their rifle sights on me

But what about those people who don't want your new restrictions ?
Those that disagree with you and have their own convictions
You say they've got it wrong because they don't agree with you
So when the revolution comes you'll have to run them through
You say that revolution will bring freedom for us all
Well, freedom just ain't freedom when your back's against the wall
Will you indoctrinate the masses to serve your new regime ?
And simply do away with those whose views are too extreme ?
It's just the same old story of man destroying man
We've got to look for other answers to the problems of this land

It all seems very easy this revolution game
But when you start to really play thing's won't be quite the same
Your intellectual theories on how it's gonna be
Don't seem to take into account the true reality
'Cos the truth of what you're saying as you sit there sipping beer
Is pain and death and suffering, but of course you wouldn't care
What's the freedom of us all against the suffering of the few ?
That's the kind of self-deception that killed ten million jews
Just the same false logic that all power-mongers use

Don't think you can fool me with your political tricks
Political right, political left, you can keep your politics
Government is government and all government is force
Left or right, right or left, it takes the same old course
Oppression and restriction, regulation, rule and law
The seizure of that power is all your revolution's for

You romanticize your heroes, quote from Marx and Mao
Well their ideas of freedom are just oppression now
Nothing's changed for all the death that their ideas created
It's just the same fascistic games, but the rules aren't clearly stated
Nothing's really different, because all governments the same
They can call it freedom, but slavery is the game

Pacified ?, Classified ?, You're already dead.
Keep in line, you're doing fine
Lost your voice, there ain't no choice
Play the game, silent and tame
Be the passive observer sit back and look
At the world they destroyed and the peace they took
Ask no questions, hear no lies
And you'll be living in the comfort of a fool's paradise
If you're the passive observer here's a message for you
Afraid to do what you know you should do
You're too afraid to make the connection
You still believe the system is there for your own protection

By letting it happen without a fight
With your endless debates about wrong and right
Nothing's going to change if you're not prepared to act
There's no point complaining after the fact
Content to be a number, branded x and neatly packed
Millions of people march for C.N.D., they're already dead
Unless they're willing to act on what they see
If each and everyone of us was prepared to fight for more
To stand against the system that creates the need for war
The elite would have to run like it's never run before

We don't need organizing or politicians being patronising
We don't need leadership or trendy lefties being hip
Don't need their condescension or their back to roots pretension
We've heard it all before, politicians saying no more war
Pulling wool across our eyes, we don't need their dangerous lies

You think moderation's going to pave the way to peace
What good is moderation against the army and police ?
We're not promoting mindless violence, keep that for the fools
We're simply saying be prepared to break their laws and rules
Let them know the bigger they come, the harder they will fall

If they're going to play it dirty, so are we
They can keep their lies about the land of the free
We've allowed them too often to use their iron fist
But there's one little detail they seem to have missed
You don't have to be passive just because you're a pacifist

They'll try to sell their system like it's some kind of age-old wisdom
But we've been had like that before, it's just the rich exploiting the poor
Well here's an honest confession, we think it's time they learnt a lesson
They've tried to hold the people down, but we've simply gone underground
Moving in the darkness, looking for the light
Looking for the future and ready to fight
Looking for the freedom that's been denied
Fast to attack and fast to hide
In a world where the people can't make it, they've got to learn to break it
And if the wealthy aren't prepared to share it
OK, we'll simply have to take it

They just won't listen
The governments say, shove it and don't get in the way
But we're sliding down corpses on a world nose-dive
What will it take to stop the machine ?
You won't change nothing with your badges, banners and protest walks
It's only when we're serious and start to make a fuss
That the smug politicians, show their real face
It's the copper and the squaddy who were once one of us
Now trained to do their duty and put us in our place

To stand up for the good of all and make demands for peace
Will bring us sharp and hard against the army and police
If they won't listen, what can we do
They're people yes, but only people oppress
They say, we're only upholding the law
And if we were off-duty, we could talk some more
OK, they're individuals, but when they're under orders
They're in a mob, P.C. punishment on the spot
Take the law into their own hands, and attack 'our' lot
They're taught to go for the neck, or bust your head, running their gauntlet
And remember, we're living in a country where the army shoots

If the uniforms choose to stay, they'll have to learn to get out of the way
If we can't go round them, we'll have to go through
If we choose to leave the path that we've been taught
We cease to be the seeker, we become the sought
Don't expect help, so don't get caught

Is there anyone there prepared to tell me why ?
Tell me why, i'm being sucked dry
You ride on me, suck my energy
You take what you want, when you want it
You reject any changes i make
You ask me for more when i've spent it
When i've given it all, you still take

Oh yes, i know the lines you draw are for protection
The number given for a name is simply for detection
I know i'm only paper in a file
But couldn't you treat me as human for a while ?

You offer protection, but insist when i decline
You offer independence, but demand i tow the line
You say you give me freedom, but you hang on to the key
Well don't you think, perhaps, the decision is up to me ?

So tell me i'm dreaming, if i want to live
And i'll tell you, you're just scheming to make me give
More than i want to, more than i can
You hide behind logic, secure with your facts
You've a history of time to back up your claims
Protecting the future by filling up the cracks
That might expose the real nature of your game
Well people wither in that living death

You hide behind prejudice, afraid of my wisdom
Afraid i might question, your unquestioned worth

No air to breathe inside your walls
Left to dream inside your walls
Left us in a wilderness

Well, i can make my paradise
Without your walls, i am alive

No body i, in rank and file
Images that you apply
I won't bow my head in shame
I won't play the game the same

Without your walls, no guilt to bear
Without your walls, we all survive
Without your love, our love to share

I'm biding my time
For my perfect crime
I've already done my time

Watch out for the quiet ones at the back
All they want is the smallest crack

For Life, Love, Peace, Justice and Truth.
